Remodeling and Real Estate Trends during the Pandemic

Oct 09, 2020 by Brandi Hull

Year 2020 has changed the landscape of real estate interests in America.
The first significant impact of COVID-19 to home buying was people from the West coast to East coast are buying real estate solely over the internet, without ever seeing the property in person.
The second significant impact of the global pandemic is people are making home purchasing decisions based on the opportunities to work remotely from home.
Not having a long commute and more staycations has had a national consequence of increased kitchen and bathroom remodeling. People are not only living in their homes, but they are enjoying the full benefit from functional, efficient, updated and trendy spaces.

Some other examples of the current real estate landscape are:
- Beach homes that were once rented out over the summer months are now being sold for permanent housing for the outdoor experiences that were once only afforded by hotels or lavish exotic vacations*.
- Additional guest bathrooms are now more wanted than ever for families that are homeschooling or providing temporary living quarters for guests that may have to quarantine
for weeks at a time due to travel restrictions.
- Bigger spaces are requiring upgraded kitchen and bathroom designs to include more spacious kitchen sinks and bigger bathtubs or walk-in showers.
- Remodeling contractors are reporting an increase in technologically advanced installations such as touchless faucets and digital showering for upgraded showering experiences.
